USGBC LEED for Homes Technical Review

This workshop provides a step by step description of how to participate in the US Green Building Council's LEED for Homes program. The course enables participants in the LEED for Homes program to understand: (1) the status of the LEED for Homes pilot, (2) the lessons learned in the pilot to date, (3) the specific measures in the rating system, and (4) the certification process. This course is designed for anyone that is interested in actively designing, building, rating, or promoting LEED Homes.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
1. Describe the benefits and costs of a LEED Home;
2. Perform a full LEED for Homes rating on a project of their choosing during the class.
3. Describe how to get started with a new LEED for Homes project.
How to Pass the LEED-NC Exam

This seminar includes an introduction to green building; overview of the industry; review of sustainable design principles and concepts; and application of the LEED-NC Green Building Rating System. Attendees are guided through the use of the LEED project checklist and the LEED registration and certification process, as well as the application of the different LEED programs. The instructor provides a detailed analysis of the LEED Rating System, including a review of all categories, prerequisites, credits, points and submittals required for each credit. Case studies of different project types are also reviewed. The seminar commences with a detailed exam review that includes an open discussion and practice exam. This program will help prepare attendees for the successful completion of the LEED-NC Professional Accreditation Exam.

Grid-Tied PV for Professionals

Healthy, Natural Building Seminar

This seminar introduces the Principles of Bau-Biologie. Eight myths regarding current construction practices will be debunked to demonstrate the need for a new approach. Students will learn what kinds of health hazards a house may contain and how during the design and construction phases not to cause them. This seminar benefits home dwellers, architects, interior designers and other building professionals. This course and companion workshop meet the seminar requirements to be certified as a Building Biology Practitioner. Topics include:
- Bau-Biologie principles and building culture
- Biologically-sound building materials

Healthy, Natural Building Workshop

This session will include demonstrations and labs using Bau-Biologie evaluation protocols and scientific instrumentation to assess indoor environmental conditions. Pollutant sources, detection and basic mitigation for the Indoor Climate: Water, Air and Electromagnetic radiation will be discussed.
Attendance at the companion seminar is a prerequisite for this workshop.
